She credits her success to a magic wand that can control the economy. None of the locals know about the chasm or Dia's methods, and now they work primarily in the local service industry. This section is the tutorial. Helia will be introduced to many game mechanics at her own pace (as in, explanations hopefully given as needed without shackling an experienced player, and the whole tutorial can be speedran in no time). She will define her character (obviously her job but also whatever else is needed early on) and gain exposure to side gigs until officially choosing a (non-permanent) one.


Helia moves into town. Angel is waiting to greet her. She is shocked her uncle isn't even home to meet her, so she offers for Helia to sleepover at her house instead. She either can refuse and skip the night, or she can spend time with Angel and get to know her better. Aries is at a sleepover with Night, so Helia can't meet him until school the next day.


She goes to school, and is given her first assignment. It's structured as a bingo card of activities. She must complete at least one row, column, or diagonal of activities in order to pass the assignment, though she will be rewarded for each additional set she completes. Each set should be a good mix of combat techniques, item acquisition and usage, and introduction to characters and locations. She can turn the assignment in whenever.


Most of the girls are hanging out in the classroom and will play rhythm and chanting games if you want.


As she tries to leave, she runs into Aries and knocks all his books onto the floor. He sharply tells her to be more careful. He then realizes she's the new girl and criticizes her for being careless and unarmed. People are generally expected to be able to defend themselves here. Helia is vaguely offended by the idea that high school kids would be armed, and, thinking about it, might have even rode on a plane full of armed passengers. Aries thinks she's foolish and realizes she doesn't even have a job yet. Helia explains that people from the Union don't really have jobs, and the government protects them and pays for most things. He's concerned about Helia's flippant attitude towards her own responsibility towards her own safety and offers to teach her how to fight in the gym right now. He asks Chloe to tag along to heal them. Angel defends Helia, saying he shouldn't be so harsh with her, and she can learn at her own pace at the gym later. Aries leaves the decision up to her and trains with Chloe at the gym in the meantime.


If Helia does fight him, he will help her pick out a suitable foam weapon. He is an easy fight but comments on anything the player seems to have trouble with. If she takes too long to fight, he reminds her how to engage in combat. If she's spamming attacks unnecessarily, he reminds her a simple tap is adequate. If her energy is insufficient for skill cost, he explains skill cost. If she spams a skill that is on cooldown, he explains cooldown. If she doesn't use any attacks, he recommends attacks for her to try. If her health is low, he recommends heals or cures she can use. He also generally explains how her job works, and how it counters and is countered by his job. If she wins, he gives her a sentimental reward. He is free to spar as much as she likes, but if she wants to train with him later, he's usually at the gym during his freetime.


She can ask her friends about their jobs and side jobs and how they approach them. There are also teachers and tutors around for each perk and job trait. As in, Armsmen will be able to train from a Fitness Armsman, a Power Armsman, an Artistry Armsman, and a Tactics Armsman. Some are in obvious and accessible locations in the school, others are around town, others are hard to find. Each will teach the most basic skills that exemplify their specialization. These skills will also be available through practice and exploration during normal gameplay, too.


act 1

Overall, the goal of act 1 is to introduce Helia as a secretive foreign girl, her uncle as a totally absent loser, the friends she will make in town. She will be challenged to use her skills against different bosses and scenarios. She will be introduced to the abyss, Kenward's exile, Dia's exploitation, a possible alliance with Kenward, and the uncle's secret identity. She can also help out around town and participate in the various factions.


  • Helia moves to a nonsensically overdeveloped and underpopulated town to live with her uncle who is never around
  • Tessa dares her into fighting slimes after curfew
  • She loses her luggage and goes searching for it
  • Her search leads her into the abyss, the source of the slimes
  • She encounters Kenward and fights him, Bless, and a horde of abyssal beasts
  • Kenward teleports her into the junkyard where she learns the ways of the slimes and constructs
  • She encourages a healthy cultural exchange between their people that impresses upon the king that it is actually a moral imperative to give Helia her back her bag (she gets her phone back)
  • They escape the abyss, cutting through a magical factory, where they encounter Dia. She incapacitates them and traps them in a backroom
  • Kenward suspects they are more aligned than they first appeared and frees them
  • Helia returns to immediately be lectured by her uncle about the dangers of the abyss, the dangers of Kenward, and the dangers of skulking around the Mayor's business
  • She has time to explore town again.
  • QuestionMart is available for hints, tips, and rumors. But no one else seems to know about its existance?
  • The mall itself is introduced with all its odd sales, rewards programs, contests, and promotions.
  • Sermons and worship is held at the church.
  • Many locals express concern about wildlife encroaching on private and commercial land, some even going so far as to offer bounties. Helia also can learn about local wildlife education programs in the area. If she excels in driving back wildlife and defeats the giant alligator and giant goose, the agency will send a more wildlife until finally sending in a professional to take out Helia. The local security forces won't cooperate, and the federal police are too tied up to care about someone killing a snake infestation on a children's playground. Eventually, it won't be feasible for the agency to press the matter and will focus their efforts elsewhere...for now. Alternatively, she can expand the territory of the wildlife in a reasonable or unlivable way and be rewarded for her efforts by the agency. Maybe beautification can be included in this, like Tom Nook's pansies he has you plant around town.
  • Tessa so wants to tame an abyssal beast. If she succeeds, Choupette will become jealous of the beast.
  • Helia can also train at the gym with Aries, take classes at school about different game mechanics, maybe with minibosses or minigames to complete.
  • She can also become a supplier for Night's apothecary. He needs abyssal herbs, and his usual supplier has been increasingly unreliable.
  • Marie-Agnes is seeking rare fibers and textiles and will make more equipment for Helia.
  • Upon Helia's first party wipe in the Abyss, Angel or Eden will take her to Night for healing. This and other suspicious activities will trigger Night to invite her for tea.

Tessa's dare

A group of high schoolers try to haze Helia by holding a sleepover in the mall after curfew. They want her to be scared of the slime monsters and strange lights and sounds, but Helia scoffs that such things could exist. But behold, slime monsters really did bubble up out of the ground when night fell. Most of the high schoolers had heard rumors of the slime monsters but had never actually seen one. They are very weak monsters and only attack if provoked. What do the high schoolers think about their sleepover idea now? If the group of high schoolers who try to haze Helia by holding a sleepover in the mall after curfew are confronted by actual slime monsters, they are likely to be shocked and frightened by the experience. Most of them may have heard rumors of the slime monsters, but may not have believed in their existence until they see them with their own eyes. They may realize that their sleepover idea was a mistake, and may be filled with regret and fear at the thought of being attacked by the monsters. Some possible reactions they might have include:


  • They may be terrified and panicked, and may try to run or hide from the monsters in order to avoid being attacked.

  • Helia: "Fine, then let's stay here and prepare! We can figure out a way to defend ourselves and keep exploring!"

Helia is kind of intimidated by Angel's brother Aries. He is brusque, blunt, and makes quick judgments about people and situations. He has a strong moral fiber, but Helia is unaware of this, only seeing his coarse exterior. He comes to help them clean. Helia is surprised and tells him he doesn't need to help, but he insists upon helping. He casually asks what caused the mess, and Helia begrudgingly mumbles something about a stupid dare. No one will devulge knowledge of the slime monsters, but Aries knows about rumors of slime monsters. Aries asks her about slime monsters outright, and Helia admits to being attacked. Aries is concerned for her safety but doesn't express it. He just nods and returns to cleaning. How might this conversation go? Aries pretends to not care about slime monsters, but he is curious about the rumors. He refrains from outright asking about the slimes. He pretends like he just wants to help clean because the mess is too big for the girls by themselves. Helia feels uncomfortable because he is probably judging her. She commited a crime and made a mess during her first week. Aries thinks she has brought excitement to the town. Helia assumes his words always conceal silent judgment.   • Angel: "No, Tessa, I don't have to admit anything. It was stupid and reckless and dangerous. I'm not going to do it again, and I don't want you to either. You're my friend, and I don't want to see you get hurt or end up in trouble."
  • Tessa: "Oh, come on, Angel. Don't be such a spoilsport. You're no fun anymore. You used to be cool and brave and adventurous. What happened to you?"
  • Angel: "I grew up, Tessa. I realized that there are more important things in life than thrill-seeking and rebellion. I want to be successful and happy and healthy. I don't want to take unnecessary risks or make stupid decisions."

Dia seizes this opportunity to spread rumors that would make people afraid of him and less sympathetic towards him, fine him, and swarm him with her security force. Dia reports Kenward to ICE. Failing this, she lures them into a fight with herself. The increased activity underworld elevates the president's interest in the region, and he's coming to personally investigate the threat to democracy and how his daughter has truly been running Lucrest. His troops occupy the town. Dia and Helia work together to overthrow her father.

I've just been kept around to keep an eye on her activities and report any significant findings. And then out of no where, probes indicate a sudden surge of power. What exactly happened?"

  • "We...found a garden. I don't know. We got into some fights with some monsters."
  • "Look, kid, I don't know what's going on here, but I have a feeling the president is sending a whole lot more than your uncle. He sounds mad enough to occupy the whole town and shut it down until he has subdued any threats and brought them under his control. If you got a place to hide, you should probably get there." "But what about the slime people. What about the beautiful garden. He wouldn't destroy them, would he? And what about my friends? They helped explore, too..."
  • "If they're smart, they'll keep their mouths shut. Anyone with any involvement in this case could have the full power of the arm of the law brought down on them. Your giant in particular is in danger. But Helia, I don't want to be caught chatting. Go. I've got work to do."
